Airtel, 2Face Stage Buckwyld N Breathless Concert in Lagos

Leading Telecommunications Services Provider, Airtel Nigeria and renowned African music artiste, 2face Idibia have concluded plans to stage the 3rd edition of Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless, a high level musical concert featuring exclusive performances from the African queen crooner, 2face Idibia.

The concert, which will hold on the 30th of April, 2012 at the prestigious Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos will also double as a launch event for 2face’s latest and fifth studio album, Away and Beyond.

At the event, 2face will perform new materials from his Away n Beyond album while Airtel will provide guests a foretaste of the exciting features on its foremost value offerings for the Nigerian youth, Club 10 Hook, also a musical platform.

Speaking on Airtel’s collaboration with 2face on the concert, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Airtel Nigeria, Deepak Srivastava said Airtel is delighted to throw its full weight behind its brand ambassador and one of the greatest artistes from Africa, saying the event will provide a great platform to engage and excite music lovers across the country.

On the Club 10 Hook Contest, Srivastava said the Club 10 Hook was designed to excite, engage and reward talented Nigerian youth as well as create a credible reward platform for them.

“Nigerians love music; they are trendy, social and innovative. With the launch of Club 10 Hook, we want to offer our customers excitement and enjoyment; and the unique opportunity to develop their talent and also enjoy a taste of stardom,” said Srivastava.

The Buckwyld N Breathless concert will afford 2face an opportunity to perform some of his new songs as the concert doubles as an album release concert.

This time, organisers say guests can expect a slight variation as 2Face will be interpreting more recent music off his fifth studio album. The event will be a continuation of the breathtaking production that fans have come to associate with 2Face and the Buckwyld N Breathless brand. The first of the series which held on September 26, 2010 was a well-attended concert with fantastic reviews for the sheer energy and captivating nature of the deliberate performances and the impeccable choreography put together by 2Face and his support cast. The second edition held on November 6 2011at the O2 Arena in London, a concert which is still talked about in glowing terms in the English capital.

In other related news, 2Face recently released a new single titled ‘Rainbow’. The song is the first single off his fifth studio album, which will be released under Hypertek Records. The song, written by 2Face Idibia, was mixed and produced by Femi “Femdouble” Ojetunde and Olubunmi “G$oL” Afolabi for Femdouble Entertainment and mastered by Adrian Morgan for Timeless Mastering, NY.

Without any doubt, the most accomplished artiste of his generation, 2Face Idibia put out his first recording Body & Soul as a member of the trio Plantashun Boiz in 1999. Thirteen years later, having gone through more ups and downs, the artiste has emerged a newer, stronger brand, winning several awards for his last effort Unstoppable.

NIGERIAN COPYRIGHT COMMISSION WAGES WAR AGAINST INTELLECTUAL INFRINGEMENT

Nigerian Copyright Commission has expressed determination to continue to wage war against intellectual property infringement until the menace is reduced to the minimal in the country.
The Director of Enforcement, (NCC) Mr. Babatunde Adetula disclosed this on Thursday at the World Intellectual Property Day organized by Microsoft in Lagos, saying the agency is resolute to mobilize resources and ideas on how the intellectual fraud could be reduced.
The Director noted that, NCC had made a couple of arrests and a lot of people have been prosecuted  and convicted, pointing out that Nigerian courts are waking up to their responsibility on the issue of Intellectual Property.
He further maintained that the judiciary has started looking at the issue of Intellectual Property in a proper way it should be in the country, adding that intellectual property is a criminal matter and should be taking to the ultimate. He expressed that any judgment made should reflect the seriousness of the situation.
Adetula said that intellectual property fraud would hinder innovation, creativity and also ruined the country’s economy. “Piracy is like a cankerworm to the nation’s economy. It is like a caterpillar that eats up the pillars of the economy. Intellectual property is not peculiar to Nigeria alone. Piracy is a global issue that needs to be addressed to ensure software innovation and development.’’ He said.
On the review of the present intellectual property law to tackle increased property right infringement, he said the matter is before the National Assembly, stressing that NCC had made proposal to the National Assembly especially in the areas of appropriate penalties for copyright offenders. He expressed optimism that by the time those proposals come on, it would make the Intellectual Property Law better.
The Anti-Piracy Conversion Manager, Microsoft, Anglophone West Africa, Mrs Ugochi Agoreyo said that the company would partner with government and intellectual property owners to tackle property infringement.
The Anti-Piracy Conversion Manager further disclosed that piracy had discouraged development and the success of the property owners as a result of drastic increased in patronage of pirated property. SUFFERING AND SMILING

A man uncomfortably seated on his motorcycle carrying a basketful of chickens which he wants to go and sell for his survival. Despite his hardwork, the obvious is that this man may still find it difficult to make ends meet. In Nigeria, hardwork leads to poverty but public office with little or no work, leads to wealth. This photograph was taken in Agbowo area in Ibadan Oyo state Nigeria recently.

8TH AFRICAN MOVIE ACADEMY AWARDS

I got a message on my mail that I should come and collect my tag which stands as my accreditation to cover the 8th AMAA awards which was held at Eko Hotels at Victoria Island in Lagos Nigeria on April 22, 2012. They were specific about accreditation time which they fixed for the hours of 2pm-4pm. I got there for 3pm and accreditation took no time. For me, that was a good start. I began to write a script in my heart on the kinds of pictures to tell the AMAA stories with. After a long wait, red carpet pictures started, as a photo-journalist that was not my interest, as the awards and other sights other than red carpet pictures was my interest but as the red carpet photo shoot dragged, I decided to join other photographers to take some red carpet pictures not knowing that was the only pictures my accrediation could get me. After the long session of the red carpet photo shoot, I decided to go inside with three other photo-journalists namely Sunday Alamba from Associated Press AP, Akintunde who works with Reuters and Kunle Ajayi of Daily Independent. As were tried to enter the hall where the event was to take place, we were told that cameras were not allowed in the place. Why? We asked, and the security men told us that, that was the order from above then I, Tunde and Kunle then drove off in Tunde`s car. As we almost got to Maryland, the spokesperson of AMAA Tope Ajayi, called Kunle if he could come to the entrance of the hall so that he could help me in. The three of us decided not to go back because we felt it was late (that should be after 11pm in the night) and we believed that by the time we get there they might have done important things. That was how I could not get the AMAA awards ceremony but we can make do of some red carpet pictures.
